Report: Electric Cars Lead New Registrations in Denmark
A total of 89,547 new vehicles were registered nationwide from January to June 2025, reflecting a modest 3.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Despite some monthly fluctuations, the overall market has remained relatively stable, Mobility Denmark reported.
Electric cars, however, have seen a dramatic rise in demand. During the first half of 2025, 57,171 new electric cars were registered—marking a nearly 47% jump from the previous year. EVs now make up 63.8% of all new car registrations, compared to 45% during the same timeframe in 2024.
The trend is even more pronounced among private car buyers. Nearly 82% of new private car registrations in the first half of 2025 were electric, with the percentage rising to almost 86% in June alone.
"There was great demand for electric cars in 2024, and we can see that interest has only grown this year, especially among private individuals who have really embraced the electric car," said Mads Rorvig, CEO of Mobility Denmark.
Rorvig urged policymakers to consider a more streamlined taxation system to support Denmark’s ongoing green transition and maintain long-term incentives for EV adoption.
